  2. It was important because it was a law for the good and the general majority. They knew that the New World's settler failed to come up with a government so they did it for their own survival. They were also the first written laws for the new land signed by all 41 men. It was meant to set up a government.

  11. When the Mayflower came to America, the people on the ship needed to organize a social contract, and this is what the Mayflower compact did. It set down rules and regulations for the people. They created this because they knew that previous settlers had failed due to lack of government and they did not want to make the same mistakes.
